Learn balboa swing from scratch! Balboa is known known for its close-embrace “hug-like” connection and fast shuffling footwork.
Please note that this class will go at a slower pace than our Beginner Bootcamps or Beginner Workshops. Our focus will be on learning the basics, key moves and techniques essential to balboa.
No partner or experience necessary.
However, we recommend that you have at least one year of social dance class experience (e.g., lindy hop, WCS, Argentine tango, etc.)
Closed-toe dance shoes recommended. We HIGHLY recommend wearing slick-soled shoes (e.g., leather soles) that allow you to slide your feet across the floor.

Balboa is… a swing dance from the 1930’s and ‘40s known for its close-embrace “hug-like” connection and fast shuffling footwork. It’s great for dancing to fast music while using much less energy than its lindy hop and collegiate shag cousins.
Join us as we deep-dive into various pure balboa topics. Maybe we will spend a class playing with waggles and how we can use them to bring texture (and a bit of levity) into our dancing. And maybe we’ll spend a class focusing on how we can shape and flow with our upper body even while in close embrace. Bring ideas for anything that you would be interested in diving deeper into during the first class and we’ll see if we can incorporate it later in the month.
